From the Huehuetenango highlands of western Guatemala, Los Huipiles is a regional blend of three coffee varietals, all from smallholder farmers in the area. Los Huipiles captures the rich, complex flavors of the Huehuetenango region, where the coffee is allowed to grow to extremely high altitudes, protected from frost due to the dry, hot winds that come in from the mountains of Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain.
What is a Huipil?
A huipil is a traditional garment made of multiple panels of fabric stitched together. It has been worn by indigenous women in Mexico and Central America for hundreds of years. Like a huipil, Los Huipiles is a "patchwork" of multiple coffees from the same region, that when combined make something complex and beautiful.
This coffee is Strictly Hard Bean (SHB), or grown above 1,200 meters above sea level. SHB coffee cherries mature slower, resulting in coffee beans that develop more complex flavors and sweetness, as well as beans that are denser and harder than beans grown at lower altitudes.
